A startling statement has been released in the US: the Department of Justice says fiat money is not property.

The memo explains that it is the government that is the issuer of the fiat money, and it is also authorized to recover some of that money through taxation, which is not considered a deprivation of property.
Further, the court affirmed that "to think of money as 'property' is also nonsensical," given that the power of the U.S. Congress to spend money to provide for the general welfare is specified in the Constitution, which has sparked much debate on the issue.
If the money were property, the court continued, these disputes would be pointless, since the Constitution proclaims the sanctity of private property.
Johnson said this could set a precedent for seizing money in these types of disputes without going to court or a judge.
"If your money isn't your property, what's to stop the government from just confiscating it all tomorrow - for whatever reason?" – he stresses.
He concluded that even when these arguments fail, they necessitate a rethinking of the current monetary system, highlighting the need to store at least some of your wealth in gold or crypto.
