The market has revived and we are exploring multiple DePIN projects. DePIN essentially extends blockchain decentralization principles to physical infrastructure. Like energy grids and supply chains. One project that has caught our attention is Acurast and we'll do a review of that.
Acurast is a decentralized cloud service running without a central server. It uses ordinary smartphones as part of a DePIN for distributed computing. It enables anyone to join a secure, confidential and reliable cloud open to Web3 and Web2 developers. As part of its commitment to processors (individuals who use their devices to provide computing), Acurast is offering an attractive incentive through passive profit on cACU tokens that are to go on sale soon. Anyone who launches their app will receive up to 250 cACU tokens per month per device. This is exciting news for us personally, as we already had a smartphone farm built up that we just added the Acurast Lite app to.
Once you join Acurast and get your first smartphone set up to work for you, take a look at the Acurast Cloud Rebellion program. Use this link to join. There you can earn MIST points, which are a surprise and bonus for the platform's most loyal users. Probably when cACU launches on the marketplace, we will get additional Airdrops according to the amount of MIST we have accumulated. How to get rewards?
The requirement to become a beneficiary of this incentive is fairly straightforward:
- Get a spare Android phone, and soon iOS;
- Set up wallet;
- Charge your account for FREE with Acurast Faucet;
- Log into the Acurast console from your computer;
Here's a step-by-step guide on how to become a processor
Why a mobile phone?
About 60% of the Global Cloud market is controlled by a few companies (Google, Amazon, Microsoft). The team behind Acurast knows they can't play by the rules and easily decentralize the space. They use their idea from everyday mobile work to tackle critical issues in the cloud computing space. We're talking about cost, centralization, lack of transparency, and lack of data privacy. The algorithm they have created leverages the chips on mobile phones to deliver better performance, providing the convenience of cloud while giving complete privacy of your data at around 50% lower cost compared to traditional cloud services.

Is this just another DePIN project?
Acurast is a project based on research and huge investments, not a project for one day. This is proven by the research collaboration between the Acurast team and researchers from the University of Zurich's Communication Systems Group. The research demonstrates the viability of Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Networks (DePINs) as a robust alternative to traditional centralized cloud computing platforms.
What's next?
Check your drawer today and you may find a spare phone hidden around to start earning rewards. Their team responds on Twitter and Discord, so feel free to ask them questions.
- Acurast is in a testing phase.
- No real revenue yet, only tokens for testnet are provided.
- The developers promise significant rewards for early adopters like us.
- The setup process is quick, approximately 5 to 10 minutes per device.
- Minimal impact on mobile performance and network traffic after 24 hours of use.
- Possibility to add unlimited number of smartphones in one address as well as one common Wifi network.
Mainnet is likely to be launched within this year (2024), more launch details will be communicated soon. Follow the project's Telegram channel as well as our Telegram channel here.
Setting up your mobile phone
- Go to the Acurast console and log in with Acurast's manicured wallet . We use MetaMask, which is a plug-in in the Google Chrome browser.
- Funding Account - Get free funding from Faucet so you can plug in a new device.
- Take one of recommended mobile devices. (Quite a few more models missing in the table are successfully included). Some smartphones with Android 11 work, others don't. They recommend using Android 12 and above.
- Log in here - https://console.acurast.com/devices - and click "Add device". Confirm the transaction with Metamask and you will receive a QR code.
- Scan the QR code after installing the Acurast Lite app. Click Connect Device and the camera will appear to scan the generated QR code from the console.
- If you only want Acurast to work on your phone, you can reset it to factory settings. Currently, before selecting a language, quickly click 5 to 10 times on the screen. This will open the camera and you can scan the same QR code.
- This will install Acurast Pro, which basically limits you. You can't use the phone for other applications for passive income.
IMPORTANT: For our strategy we use the Lite Version of ACURAST. It installs like any other app from Google Play. This way we can work with multiple passive income apps at the same time instead of the whole phone running acurast only. Of course, if you believe in the project, you can also install devices just for it!
Personal experience with Acurast
The setup process becomes more than easy after the first device is added. Each phone requires its own unique QR code, a process that, while easy, is somewhat monotonous when setting up multiple devices.I have over 50 devices with acurast lite installed. Each of which earns 250 tokens per month, divided into hourly portions.
Device compatibility and nuances of setup
While most of my devices integrated smoothly with the network, the setup highlighted a clear distinction in device compatibility. My phones Huawei simply failed to be integrated, which is disappointing but not surprising. They are entirely missing from the list we shared above.
Network traffic and device performance
After monitoring my mobile farm for 24 hours while connected to the Acurast network, I noticed some notable points regarding device performance and network traffic:
- Temperature: Surprisingly, none of the devices had problems with excessive heating. Each mobile phone remained cool to the touch without even the slightest increase in heat. This is a significant advantage for those worried about their smartphones wearing out due to prolonged use.

- Network traffic: Data usage was minimal, with the most amount per device and 24h being only about 1.19 GB. This low data usage is ideal for users concerned about overspending on their plans or overloading their home networks.
These observations contribute to the understanding of the network impact and operational efficiency of Acurast. The platform is promising in terms of device safety and network economics.
Processor role and rewards
As an Acurast processor, the role is straightforward: provide computing power simply by keeping devices plugged in. This simplicity masks the profound impact of joining a global movement transforming legacy phones into nodes of a decentralized cloud. The processor is the backbone of the network.
Incentivising participation, Acurast promises up to 250 cACU tokens per month for each active device. This, combined with rewards from completed computing tasks, paints a lucrative picture for both current and future members. It's an initiative that underscores the network's commitment to its community and the broader vision of a decentralized infrastructure.
Interoperability and integration
Acurast's design emphasizes interoperability, providing seamless integration across different Web3 ecosystems. By supporting environments such as EVM, WASM, and Substrate, Acurast not only protects decentralization, but also fosters an inclusive ecosystem incorporating different technology frameworks.
Conclusion
Acurast is ambitiously redefining the future of cloud computing by tapping into the decentralized potential of mobile devices. While still in its infancy, the project's vision, coupled with tangible rewards, positions it as a beacon for the financial futures of its participants. The network's success depends on its ability to maintain transparency, deliver on promises and foster a robust community of processors.
As a participant, I remain cautiously optimistic. The unique proposition of turning inactive smartphones into a decentralised computing network is fascinating, especially in an age where sustainable and innovative technological solutions are being sought. I will continue to follow Acurast's development closely, bearing in mind the balance between pioneering spirit and pragmatic execution of its ambitious goals.
